Summary/Abstract: The eutectic Al-Si alloy is one of the most widely used alloy groups due to its advantages in fluidity, low melting point and castability. However, prevention of shrinkage problems caused by insufficient feeding gains importance in this alloy group for sound casting parts. In order to obtain compatible results in Casting Simulation software used in molding design of castings, many data must be entered correctly. One of the important features in terms of feeding mechanism in modeling software is the Critical Fraction of Solid (CFS) value. CFS is defined as the resistance created by the growing solid dendrites against the flow ability of the feed liquid in the solid-liquid region during solidification of castings. Since CFS value varies depending on many factors, it causes inconsistent results when incorrect data is entered.
