Summary/Abstract: The article is about the relation of the Croatian language and its orthography analysing the selection of normative forms in the standardization process. Special attention is focused on the application of phonological and morphonological principles, on the way words with the so called "covered r" are written, and on the structure and content of the orthographical manuals.
