Summary/Abstract: This paper aims at highlighting the role of communication within thearchitecture of information operations (INFO OPS) and of the informationresources management (IRM) in the military, taking into account the quantitativeand qualitative changes regarding the contemporary battlefield, the newstructures of forces, and the new technologies, i.e., in sum, the physiognomyof the current type of war. From this perspective, we intend to identify the roleof communication in military operations, considering examples of well knownconflicts, from ancient times to the present day. Moreover, we intend to analysethe mutations produced after the Vietnam War and especially after two keymoments in conducting military confrontations: the Gulf War (1990-1991) andthe Iraq War (2003). These consistent changes radically redesign the role ofcommunicational/informational architecture of the contemporary conflictwithin the doctrines of the last two decades.
