A Framework for Considering the Impact of Innovation on Strategy. Technological Progress: A Shaper or a Facilitator for Geopolitical Analysis?

Summary/Abstract: Innovation is usually associated with technological progress. In intelligenceanalysis, progress is driven by the challenges the analysts see in discerninguseful information from the vast array of data available. For geopoliticalanalysis – which is used during the strategic decision-making process, progressaims at understanding those details that influence the national status quo, andultimately the state’s security related imperatives. This is why it is importantto understand what really constitutes “change” and how progress, includingtechnological progress, may help (or limit) our ability in pointing it out andunderline its importance from the very beginning. This article aims at deliveringa conceptual framework for looking at the way progress shapes society – andhow it is linked with innovation for strategic decision-making.
