Summary/Abstract: Lajos Dóczi (1845–19919) was a German-Hungarian bilingual writer, poet, translator, journalist and diplomat of Jewish origin. His plays written in German and Hungarian were played in Budapest and Wien. He translated into Hungarian Goethe’s famous drama: Faust, Schillers poems and translated into German such Hungarian masterpieces as Az ember tragédiája (The Tragedy of Man) by Imre Madách and János Arany’s ballads. His life is a story of man influenced by two cultures, who goes through ethnic identity change and it also symbolizes the cultural integration of an ethnic group into the majority.
