Summary/Abstract: The aim of the present paper is to evoke an agrarian spring ritual, having an archetypal, mythical content and message. The ritual is based on an ancient belief present in the animal breeding peoples’ culture, according to which humans, similar to gods, have the magic power to influence vegetation for the pragmatic benefit of animal feeding. In Sândominic community (Harghita county, Romania) a special custom has been preserved, a tradition practiced annually by the local farmers, who, in the first decade of May take part in a three-day ritual. The first two days are dedicated to sheep shearing, while the third day, when the farmers’ wives arrive to bring them food and drinks, ends with a ritual erotic dance. The men invite one by one the women present, and, lying down, they roll down the hill. The keywords above suggest the function and contents of the whole ritual. The archetypal core of this game is the magic faith according to which the female body is the holder of fertility, a force to be transmitted to earth through the mimed sexual contact.
