Summary/Abstract: In 1945, under harsh conditions, began the process of building the Polish region in Western Pomerania. In this field education played an important role. Thanks to the efforts of the Poles living there before the war, polish schools were organized in the eastern parts of the region already in the spring of this year. In the western part of the district, including Szczecin, the first Polish school year was organized by the state authorities, mainly The Education Office of Western Pomeranian, which was, for several months, headed by a well-known humanist, writer Dr. Stanisław Helsztyński. In September 1945 his successor became Józef Kania. The first Polish educational institutions operated on the basis of program assumptions functioning in The Second Polish Republic. In Szczecin, the first Polish school year was inaugurated on September 4, 1945. This article presents historical, political and social conditions accompanying the building of Polish education in Western Pomerania.
