Summary/Abstract: Since the beginning of Christianity a community had been formed which became a parish. The life centre of this community was the celebration of the Eucharist and close residence which enabled people to gather for the liturgy under the bishop’s and later the presbyter’s leadership. In the feudal period a parish became one of the components of social life, releasing it of that dependence strengthened the concept of a parish as an institution related to the hierarchic Church system. The Council of Trent confirmed this ecclesiology, although it demanded personal relationships between a vicar and his parishioners. Ecclesiology developed in the 19th and 20th century paved the way to the post-conciliar idea of a parish as the place where the Church is present in the liturgy and Eucharistic gathering as “the sacrament of Church – sacrament of salvation in Christ”. The concept of this parish mission requires evangelization-catechumenal strategy.
