Summary/Abstract: Transylvanian composers György Orbán and György Selmeczi both contributed to the bassoon-literature by writing a Sonata for bassoon and piano and Four pieces to Phil Marlow for bassoon and piano. The study focuses on how these pieces were created, the role they played in the career paths of the composers and how they made it to concerts-halls. Thorough presentation of the pieces aims to identify their musical style. The study also focuses on the artistic performances and educational results that these pieces have brought forth, including the point of view of the performer so it can be subjected to subsequent analysis. The study discusses the notational features of the compositions, the experiences of performing them in Hungary and abroad. It also suggests how the pieces can be used in the bassoon education: what special previous music studies and educational materials they require. The study is strongly built on the in-depth interviews conducted with the composers.
