Summary/Abstract: The article shows that the rules for creating texts in accordance with the plain language standard as well as the tools used for measuring their readability can also be used in the process of adapting texts for testing knowledge of Polish as a foreign language. It is required to modify original (authentic) texts used in exam tasks in order to adapt those texts in a way that they correspond with exam standards requirements. Yet, the initial analysis of sample tasks aimed at testing reading comprehension in Polish as a foreign language exams shows that the underlying original texts were transformed according to the plain language rules. Therefore, when preparing texts for testing knowledge of Polish as a foreign language it is possible to apply the text simplification patterns described by researchers of plain Polish. The level of difficulty of those texts can be determined using automatic measurement tools as an auxiliary method.
