Summary/Abstract: The article examines the living standards of the population of Southern Bessarabian towns after the Revolution of February 1917, discloses the factors that negatively affected the financial position of the urban people, and measures that the local authorities introduced in order to resolve the crisis situation in the towns of the region. It was established that food, economic and financial crises caused a dramatic deterioration in the living standards of the urban population of Southern Bessarabia in 1917 and led to the crisis of the local self-government. On the basis of archival materials the author of the article has depicted the reaction of townspeople to the problems of shortages, rapid price increase and falling incomes of the population.
