Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of the presence of religion in traditional and contemporary societies. The author distinguishes four social forms of religion, all of which show that it emerges in different periods of history and in different forms. In this article the author particularly deals with the type of religion characteristic of contemporary societies, named the privatized form of religion.
