Summary/Abstract: Equality of gender is dealt with in close connection to the principle of equality of remuneration: equal work, equal payment. This principle was introduced to guarantee loyal competition in the free-trade areas, while guaranteeing the labor freedom of movement. The European Court of Justice played an essential role in the evolution and the materialization of gender policies at European level. Equal treatment at work involves rigorous conceptualization of such terms as direct discrimination, indirect discrimination, harassment and sexual harassment. The hierarchy of salaries should not be gender-dependent, while differences between salaries should be based on the complexity of work and the knowledge needed to accomplish it.
