Summary/Abstract: In the Year 2008, Romania adopted a number of legislative and institutional measures reflecting the domestic and the international developments in the field of the promotion and protection of human rights, in close connection to the developments at European level and its status as an EU Member State. Romania ratified the Treaty of Lisbon under Law No. 13 of 2008. The report on the legislative and the institutional measures is organized to cover a large thematic area, from the practice of the European Union citizens and the establishment of the national system for the coordination of European affairs so as to participate in the decision making process of the Community institutions, down to such issues as immigration, human rights and equality of treatment between men and women in the framework of the professional security schemes, protection of elderly persons and disabled persons. It also refers to measures that Romania took to consolidate the judicial cooperation and its administrative capacity such as to fulfill its commitments assumed as an EU Member State.
