The Community acquis in terms of equality of opportunities and treatment in the field of labour relations

Summary/Abstract: In dealing with equality of opportunities and treatment in the field of labour relationships, the author starts with the way this issue is regulated in the international and regional documents and then details the way these regulations are implemented into and applied by the national legislation. Thus, the presentation of the international and the communitarian regulations related to equality of opportunities and treatment as far as labour relationships are concerned is followed by a pertinent analysis of the national level of legislative implementation and the status of harmonization of the Romanian legislation with the communitarian acquis. She mentions the main national regulations in the field, as well as the institutions tasked to apply the legislation, presents the National Plan of Action for equality of opportunities between men and women, the national strategy for equality of opportunities between women and men (2006–2009). At the same time, she examines the principles of equal payment between men and women, equality in terms of access to jobs, professional training and promotion, as well as working conditions and social security, the creation of the general framework providing equality of opportunities and treatment related to employment and labour, preventive measures against harassment and sexual harassment at the working place, and also access to jobs, to professional training and promotion in conformity with the national law and the national practices, etc.
