Summary/Abstract: The following article presents the Mariology of St. Caesarius of Arles. It consists of two parts. The first shows Mary’s place in allegorical exegesis, and the second one illustrates the most important truths of faith regarding her. The moon, the earth, and the marriage chamber, are for Bishop of Arles, the most important symbols of the Mother of our Lord. Mary’s Motherhood of God, virginity and holiness are the fundamental truths of faith which he proclaims. The shape of Caesarius’ Mariology was primarily influenced by his pastoral experience, which is why the truths he presents are not innovative. Rather, Caesarius repeats what he inherited from other church fathers.
