Croatian Matrimonial Terminology

Summary/Abstract: Croatian equivalents for the Latin maritus ‘husband’, uxor Svife’ and coniux ‘spouse’ are discussed. Since Croatian supplies a wealth of such terms, with fairly recent additions (such as sir pruinici}, the author has attempted to evaluate these items linguistically and terminologically and to enhance the awareness of them. This should facilitate the selection of the best among them for Croatian legislative needs, while the rest would be left to general language use.
