Summary/Abstract: «Lateral Thinking» is a concept theoretically and practically defined by Edward de Bono some decades ago, with the purpose of replacing or completing the vertical thinking and giving another perspective to thought, by its direct reasoning, critical approach to ideas and creativity supporting attitude. According to the author, creativity is in fact a method to be used with all professions and ages, to demolish the barriers between the old ideas and the newly structured ones. Language teaching can make use of this approach both in vocabulary and grammar teaching as an alternative to traditional teaching methods enabling the development of thinking by means of the unexpected analogies developed.
