Summary/Abstract: The present article, drawn up within the project “The Year 1918 in the German Press of the Habsburg Monarchy” of the Austria Library “Bernhard Stillfried“ at the Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, aims to present how the biggest German communities in Greater Romania, the Transylvanian Saxons, the Banat Swabians and the Bucovina Germans managed to rekindle the gymnastics and sport movements after the end of World War One. Also the article presents an overview of the gymnastics and sporting activities before the breakout of the war, in order to show where everything was left off, as well as to emphasize the efforts that were made after the war, to regain the pre-war status and development level. The gymnastics and sport movements are presented from the perspective of the German language sports press in Romania.
