Summary/Abstract: Many stories of the Greek cultural sphere tell us that refugees sought protection at sacred places dedicated to some deity, and we are also informed about the success or failure of such asylum seeking. It was a compelling obligation for sanctuaries to provide protection for fugitives. However, posterity is also informed that this regulation was broken many times – although it was considered a sacrilegious act, and the wrath of gods would punish those who disregard the right of asylum. The study examines this subject.
