Summary/Abstract: Foreshadowed by traditional characteristics, emphasized by the presence of specific and defensive architectural elements, determined by position, time, localization, historical and social circumstances, the kula-type construction represents a precious relic which evokes the most original form of Romanian fortified houses. Starting with the 17th century, the typology of the kula, its defensive tower with one or more levels, has been stylistically diversified in the two main spaces of its extension, Oltenia and Muntenia, constituting one of the pillars which define the Romanian architectural style.
