Summary/Abstract: My paper explores medieval and early modern pageantry in contemporary British culture through performances staged in 2012 in England: Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, Damon Albarn and Rufus Norris’ opera, Dr Dee, and the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. I argue that global attention in 2012 offered the opportunity for Britain to redefine its cultural identity through the above-mentioned performances.
