German railroad terminology - selected aspects

Summary/Abstract: The following article presents selected naming strategies which affect terminologization in the railroad industry. One of its aims is to prove that the form of these terms is largely dependant on such aspects as the language economy and the ‘tendency to exposition/visualisation’. A short historical view and a particular emphasis on the cognitive function of languages for a special purposes create a frame of the following analysis, stressing the importance of the issue and, at the same time, showing the multidimensional character of the achieved results.
