Summary/Abstract: Over the past 45 years Yugoslavia has been pursuing an aid policy designed to promote faster development of the underdeveloped republics and Kosovo province; to make it possible for these areas to "catch up" with the more developed republics in the north and north west of the country . Notwithstanding many billions of dollars in internal aid and some modest successes , this objective was not achieved , and there is now a greater gap between the developed and underdeveloped parts of the country than there was in 1947. This article will treat the following questions: (1) Which areas received aid and how much? (2) In what forms was aid extended? (3) How important was this aid in the development process? (4) Which areas in Yugoslavia were the source of the aid and how much did they contribute? (5) What were the effects of the aid to the less developed areas and what do Yugoslav economists propose for the future? [...]
