Summary/Abstract: The author examines the status of the National Bank of Romania in terms of human rights, pointing out those powers and specific ways of exercising them that are particularly relevant for guaranteeing social security and the enjoyment of the economic rights, indispensable to dignity and the free development of one's personality. The domestic and the international activities of the central bank are performed in respect of the constitutional provisions regarding the fundamental rights, with the protection of which it is directly involved. The author points out, among other things, the important role it plays in limiting the risks and providing financial stability, while presenting in this context self-developed structures and activities of a prudential nature as well as the regulations in the field. He also mentions the relationships with other institutions such as the Fund for guaranteeing deposits in the banking system, whose status and balance are subject to the approval of the central bank.
