Summary/Abstract: Starting from the intellectual trajectory of the late Academician Marcu Botzan (1913–2011), agricultural and hydrotechnical engineer, the paper focuses on the significance of the two main directions in his work: that concerning irrigations (the holistic approach of the working of land) and that of philosophical reasoning. Indeed, there is a logical unity between Marcu Botzan’s scientific activity and his reflections upon the man’s approach to existence. Philosophically speaking, Marcu Botzan’s scientific and practical experience led him to certain views upon life. The latter are important not only in that they illustrate the holistic tendency in the current development of sciences, but also in that they show his ability to interpret the ancient cultural tradition in the light of the present or to link present feelings and attitudes to Antiquity, namely, to link discontinuous historical moments by means of a critical teleology.
