Summary/Abstract: Previously the adjective fascist was frequently employed to describe both the Portuguese integralist ideology as well as Salazar’s dictatorship. Recent research has offered a more nuanced picture; Mussolini and the Fascist ties are mentioned less often while the French influences and the originality of the Lusitanian manifestations receive greater emphasis.
