Summary/Abstract: Ştefan Fălcoianu – a general, politician, mathematician and historian – is assured of an important place in the gallery of outstanding personalities of the Romanian Armed Forces and of the Romanian Academy of Sciences. He was born in Bucharest, on June 6, 1835 – 177 years ago. He successively graduated from the Military School for Officers in Bucharest (1854–1856), the Imperial Military School of Saint-Cyr, Paris (1860–1862) and the Polytechnic School from Paris (1862–1864), becoming in 1876 the first active military of the Romanian Academy of Sciences. The legacy left for his successors by the Division General Ştefan Fălcoianu is diverse, in the military, political, scientific and cultural fields. The present article wants to highlight a part of the achievements of this significant personality, not only for the Romanian Armed Forces, but also for the Romanian Academy of Sciences.
