Summary/Abstract: Christianity laid the foundation of equality among people in the framework of the Universal Order in their capacity as God's children; he taught them not only that they are equal among themselves, but also that they are kin (brothers) under the parental authority of the same divinity, to whom they owe obedience and submission. Christianity thus insufflated faith solidarity and mutual assistance among people, and a conscience of accountability for their deeds as well. Christianity has the great merit of having introduced a new outlook about Man in the social philosophy and the political practice of the rulers, both with regard to the relationships between Man and his fellows, and also to the State and society. Liberalism developed the concept of the individuals who have to live together in society. One way or another, the individual's life is lived in the framework of society and is closely related to the State. However, since the State tends to expand the domain for the exercise of power, adversely affecting the individual's freedoms, the latter need to fight in order to have acknowledged a certain framework for his personality to be exercised, a framework beyond which the State's action is illegitimate and can be counteracted by legal means. Thus, the individual will be protected against any arbitrary interference or pressure by the State. In this respect, the State is bound to protect the citizens' rights and freedoms. While we owe the overthrow of the totalitarian regime to Man - the citizen, we should owe the observance of the principles of good governance to Man - the politician. For this to be possible, Man - the politician should “know” and get closer to Man - the citizen and do so not only in electoral terms. Otherwise, Man - the politician is just staying in front of a Mirror, deluded by what he sees.
