Summary/Abstract: From the Slovak point of view Visegrad group remains the most important structure for regional cooperation. The period since the EU-enlargement in May 2004 became the period of looking for the new role of this grouping. Its initial aims - the common accession of its members into the European Union and the accession of Slovakia to NATO were successfully completed. Since 2004, the discussion on the existence and future role of V4 was opened, especially by the journalists and political scientists. On the other hand, it has to be stated that despite the low confidence in the efficiency of the cooperation within the framework of Visegrad, there is almost no politician who would dare dispute its importance. Despite some criticism or reservations towards the mode of its functioning and effectiveness, the alternative models of regional cooperation, such as the Regional Partnership, were even less successful than the V4 in the terms of their political achievements.
