Summary/Abstract: The essay focuses on the theoretical reflection of Massimo Bonntempelli, in which the Great War has a direct role: it marks the passage from a nineteenth-century culture, that is still behind, and a modern and innovative one, also the result of the destruction promoted by the avant-gardes, above all Futurism.In the second part of the essay, a short Bontempellian story, entitled Mio zio non era futurista, is interpreted: it clearly reflects the author's ideas about the First World War as a cultural event.
