Summary/Abstract: During the interwar period efforts to industrialize the agrarian economy of Romania were aimed primarily at ending underdevelopment. International capital played a decisive role in this process, due to insufficient internal capital accumulation and a lack of skilled labor at home. The Romanian state began its efforts to provide a favorable climate for domestic capital in the early 1930s by means of import substitution and protectionism. [...]
