Summary/Abstract: In spite of the enormous impact the Second World War had on the fate of East Central European societies and the availability of monographs covering specialized topics, no general histories of wartime regimes in these countries are currently available. An analysis of the social consequences of the Second World War in these societies has yet to be written. Without such an analysis understanding the mechanisms of postwar imposition of communist regimes in this region is impossible.
