Summary/Abstract: This essay is a plea for more careful use of Dutch language, in particular by translators and teachers of Dutch. In particular, the spelling always proves to be a difficult stumbling block, and not just for second-language or foreign-language learners. The essay examines the problem of compound words and mistakes made by professional language practitioners of Dutch when writing these words or not.
