Summary/Abstract: Despite Eastern Europe's economic difficulties and slow growth in recent years, several countries in that region have enjoyed favorable treatment in the international capital market, and most of them have succeeded in improving their commercial relations with the rest of the world. While academic assessments of Eastern Europe's situation focus on the issues of reform and suggest that structures must be modernized, the capital market seems unconcerned with these longer-term structural problems. Instead, the capital market appears to be interested primarily in short-term improvement and the potential for commercial growth.
