Summary/Abstract: Chronic diseases are an increasingly common phenomenon among children andadolescents and they are a serious problem in the context of student developmentopportunities at all levels of education.This article aims to analyze the most important issues with related the functioning of students suffering from chronic diseases in the context of solutions developed by the Polish education system. The analysis shows that there are a number ofthreats that negatively affect both the physical and mental condition of chronicallyill students. The Polish educational system is trying to respond to these threats, butchanges which will allow for their further effective reduction should still be introduced. The purpose of this article is to analyze the functioning of children sufferingfrom chronic diseases in the context of solutions proposed by the Polish educationsystem. To achieve this goal, the article is divided into three main parts. The first ofthese will focus on explaining what chronic diseases are and what their basic featuresare. The second part will discuss the basic threats in the context of developmentalpossibilities of chronically ill children. The most important and final part will concern the main issue, i.e. analyzing the functioning of chronically ill children withinthe Polish education system.
