Polish-Italian Cultural and Scientific Relations in 1945-1954

Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to present the scientifi c and cultural relations between Poland and Italy in 1945−1954. It is based on the source documents from the Central Archives of Modern Records as well as the Italian archives. The study shows how the Cold War atmosphere infl uenced these relations. It led to the situation where exchange of people was frozen, and hardly any cultural events were organized by the state authorities. The Polish culture in Italy was presented almost entirely by the communists Polish-Italian Friendship Society. Just few cultural manifestations in Poland were limited to works and communist movement artists. More open relations, supported by offi cial declarations and activities of the state authorities, did not take place until 1955.
