Summary/Abstract: Iwanczewska examines the relationship between AIDS and society in the field of Polish culture. Using the category of contact zones, she shows how HIV and AIDS impacted Polish culture and what social imaginary they produced. By assembling an archive of performing arts and cultural products related to AIDS, she also points to the performative gesture of producing social relations, images and dominant narratives, as well as the strategy of visibility and invisibility in public spaces. She argues that AIDS has not transformed the identity of Polish society. Aesthetic objects and artefacts exist as mere traces of contact between AIDS and Polish society.
