SIXTEENTH-CENTURY JERUSALEM TYPICON FROM THE MUEZERSKY MONASTERY

Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the study of the Jerusalem Typicon that belonged to the Muezersky Monastery(“Cassian’s Hermitage”) during the XVI and the XVII centuries. It examines the specific features of this document’s recension, its composition, and the repertoire of the menology it includes. The author establishes the fact that this document is the recension of the 44-chapter Jerusalem Typicon. She also traces the localization of the Typica belonging to a similar type of recension: usually they were distributed in the regions northwest of Moscow (Tver, Novgorod or Pskov). However, the menology of the Typicon from the Muezerskiy Monastery includes commemorations of Moscow hierarchs Alexis and Jonah, as well as the commemoration of the transfer of Metropolitan Peter’s relics. It does not,however, include commemorations normally found in the Typica from the Novgorod region (including the Typiconcreated at the request of monk Dositheus), such as commemorations of Our Lady of the Sign and Euthymius of Novgorod. The inventory of the Solovetsky Monastery library suggests that Muezersky Typicon has no connection to it. The study concludes that this Typicon emerged in a large monastic center possibly located in Moscow or at a place with a pro-Moscow orientation.
