Summary/Abstract: Relying on field data collected in 2016, my article deals with the lifestyle of transhumant herders from the area of Mărginimea Sibiului, in Southern Transylvania, Romania. “Lifestyle” is referred to a series of facts related to the wintering of sheep herds in several lowlands from north-western, western, and south-eastern regions of Romania; among such facts, supplying of farming products and pasture renting, herders’ sheltering, clothing, and cooking, as well as their responsibilities associated with the moment of lambing – are in this case particularly relevant. My text is intended to contribute the existing Romanian ethnographic literature with accounts of South-Transylvanian herders having lived what, in the past, transhumance was in its daily and seasonal hardships, as an unpredictable and yet enduring experience in the human adaptation to environment.
