Summary/Abstract: Psyche seems to be a fairly well known mythological character, not only as Cupid’s wife, but especially as a symbol of the human soul. However, her origins remain obscure, and the interpretations attached to her are numerous and of a great variety. Through this literary, mythological, philosophical, ethnological and psychoanalytical study, Psyche is shown to have metamorphosed throughout the centuries to become an important figure of western culture.
