Teeth – Diseases and Folk Treatment Methods as Reflected in the Bulgarian Linguistic Picture of the World

Summary/Abstract: Health and illness are two of the most important aspects of human life. The fragment of the linguistic picture of the world describing the physical and psychological status of Bulgarians is well-represented in the vocabulary of the Bulgarian dialects as well as in medieval manuscripts. The article aims at presenting an overview of the lexis related to teeth and teeth treatment in the Bulgarian traditional culture, which has been poorly studied in the academic literature. The study is based on material from dialect, etymological and phraseological dictionaries, collections of proverbs and sayings, ethnological studies and archives.
