Summary/Abstract: This article describes the meaning of Latin legal maxims on the example of the rules of Roman law known as the Digest [Digesta Iustiniani] from 533 “Concerning different rules of ancient law”, in the context of the contemporary crisis of the rule of law in Poland. Particular attention was paid to the maxim “What is ill from the outset will not be cured by the passage of time”. Several other principles known from this collection have been indicated as up-to-date. The author argues how harmful the violation of legal rules by the current power camp in Poland is from the point of view of maintaining the social order and the principles of the rule of law. He also points to the dangers resulting from these practices for the prospects of exercising power by the United Right.
