Summary/Abstract: This article discusses Patryk Szaj’s book Wierność trudności… The starting point is the use of radical-hermeneutic categories of severity, expiration, and factualism as tools for interpreting the canonical works of Aleksander Wat, Tadeusz Różewicz, and Stanisław Barańczak. By finding similar themes in the works of the three 20th-century poets (physical suffering, the poetics of obligation, anti-metaphysics), the Poznań researcher drew a picture of a radical-hermeneutic attitude towards the primal hardship of life. The analysis of the book highlights the author’s excellent interpretative skills and its importance in bringing Polish readers closer to radical hermeneutics and the thoughts of the American philosopher John D. Caputo.
