Summary/Abstract: The article draws attention to extensive ornithological interests and knowledge of Bruno Schulz, who disclosed excellent insight concerning the appearance, customs, etc. of assorted species and, in this context, was particularly intrigued by the dodo. Schulz did not delve into the concrete, but sought the original sources and elementary beginnings. From this vantage point the historical fact is only an element–intermediary between the past and that which emerges /will emerge from the present. The writer was interested in the “underpinning of things” and their “hatching” and not their histories. The bird-oriented plot with the dodo as the lead protagonist appears to confirm this concept.
