Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the relations between the South Italian society and royal officeholding in the Angevin period. Charles I brought about 4000 French and Provencal knights with himself to the Kingdom of Naples-Sicily. Angevin administration was based on continuity with the previous Staufer regime in the Kingdom.
