Summary/Abstract: The archaeological research at the Lutheran Church from Şaroş pe Târnavă was carried out as a result of the beginning of a restoration project with European funding and aimed at obtaining preliminary data on the church planimetry and its timeline. The team of archaeologists consisted of Ioan Marian Țiplic (Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu), Maria Crîngaci Țiplic (Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Sibiu) and Adrian NicolaeŞovrea (Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu). The archaeological research was the first archaeological approach of thefortified ecclesiastical ensemble, representing the first stage of the archaeological research within the restoration project, and 4 archaeological units (C1-4) were established outside the church. The cemetery around the church that has at least two burial horizons was mainly studied. None of the graves discovered during this first archaeological campaign had inventory, which is why a tighter dating is difficult. It seems that the first burial horizon is dating before the transformation of the church which is presumes that has taken place in the second part of 15th century.
