Summary/Abstract: The nationalist and political conception transmitted in the public sphere by the Romanian Orthodox Church in Transylvania and that of the Legion „Archangel Michael” were extremely similar and essentially aimed at transforming the state in to an ethno-national and Christian-Orthodox state. The way in which the Legion was presented in the press of the Transylvanian Church during 1936-1941 was in fact equivalent to the acceptance of this political organization as an integral part of the Romanian Orthodoxy. Moreover, the church discourse legitimized the Legion’s claim that it is a political manifestation of Orthodoxy and the National-Legionary State was presented as its most authentic concretization. The uncritical approach of the relationship between the Christianity of the Legion and that of the Romanian Orthodoxy led to the de facto declaration of the so-called “martyrs of the Legion” assaints of the Church.
