Summary/Abstract: During the period of 1649–1652 sculptor Sebastiano Sala created a marble--alabaster tombstone for prince George I Rákóczi to be placed in Gyulafehérvár’s (AlbaIulia) cathedral. This paper aims to present the circumstances of its creation. Based on theposthumous inventory of the artist’s belongings it describes the life and artistic activity ofSala. The document allowed to define precisely the artist’s material status as well as thedate and the circumstances of his death. The paper describes the tenement house locatedon Sławkowska street in Krakow, owned by the artist, where he lived with his family. Theappendix includes the above mentioned inventory as well as Sebastiano Sala’s letter addressed to Sigismundus Rákóczi.
