Summary/Abstract: City physicians, called physici, performed numerous duties in Early ModernEurope, different from country to country and region to region. Research possibilitiesregarding their role in the history of Danzig/Gdańsk medicine are limited because of theloss of archives during the World War II. The article presents the rights and obligations ofGdańsk physici in the 17th century based on a source hitherto unknown to researchers –the city medical constitution of 1661.
